WHAT’S IN A NAME?

The female name “Mona” and the word “vie” literally means to challenge the woman named Mona. I am not sure how this applies to a multilevel marketing company intent on selling fruit juice blends with Acai juice among 18 other juices. Perhaps the real task is to challenge the quality and value of the juice called by the same name. If you take a bottle of this product and do the math on the contents per ounce it turns out that there would only be 1.3 ounces of each juice in their 25 ounce bottle. One ounce is the equivalent of approximately 30 milliliters or one Tablespoon. Their recommended daily dosage is one Tablespoon. So in that one Table spoon optimally you would be receiving only .05 ounces per serving of any one of the 19 juices in their Acai fruit punch. That is only 5% of the volume of a Tablespoon. That is as small as a teardrop. Now one bottle can cost $40.00. There are 25 servings per bottle which then comes to $1.60 per ounce. On a national average gasoline is only 4cents per ounce. Other companies sell 32 ounce bottles of 100% acai for the same $42.00 price but the taste of 100% pure acai is very bitter and hard to swallow. It seems the reasonable middle ground in this purple berry fight is to find a juice that is high in quality, content, ready to drink or rather good tasting and half the cost of these $40.00 bottles. The only product we have been able to find that fits this category is Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai. A 32 ounce bottle of Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai contains 85% real Acai with the remaining 15% a mixture of just two juices for flavor. And the good news is that the taste is outstanding. It really tastes like Acai. The cost is only $18.95 per bottle and when purchased in groups of 5 the shipping is free. No need to cry any tears over finding high quality, great tasting reasonably priced Acai with Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai.

VITAMIN C VS. THE SWINE FLU

On Monday, a report by President Obama's scientific advisors laid out a not-so-encouraging scenario of the possibility that more than 100 million Americans could contract the swine flu (H1N1) virus, and that up to 90,000 could die from it this fall and winter. The World Health Organization (WHO) has formally declared a pandemic in the growing outbreak of H1N1 influenza. This is the type widely known as "swine flu."

We all need to know how to fight the flu. Some very simple things that everyone of us can do include frequently washing one's hands, practice good hygiene in public and at home, and stay out of the hospital if possible, get enough rest and eat foods rich in antioxidants. "We can't stop the tide of flu any more than we can turn a hurricane in its course," said Dr. Jay C. Butler, director of the CDC's H1N1 vaccine task force, during a recent briefing on H1N1. "... But we can mitigate the effects and help prevent people from becoming severely ill."

It turns out that vitamin C may end up playing an important role in the battle against this global health threat. We have known for years that vitamin C is good for us. But this year we are learning just how vital it will be for us.

The Linus Pauling Institute reports that “Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of collagen, an important structural component of blood vessels, tendons, ligaments, and bone. Vitamin C also plays an important role in the synthesis of the neurotransmitter, norepinephrine. Neurotransmitters are critical to brain function and are known to affect mood. In addition, vitamin C is required for the synthesis of carnitine, a small molecule that is essential for the transport of fat to cellular organelles called mitochondria, for conversion to energy (1). Recent research also suggests that vitamin C is involved in the metabolism of cholesterol to bile acids, which may have implications for blood cholesterol levels and the incidence of gallstones (2).:”

They also says that “Vitamin C is also a highly effective antioxidant. Even in small amounts vitamin C can protect indispensable molecules in the body, such as proteins, lipids (fats), carbohydrates, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from damage by free radicals and reactive oxygen species that can be generated during normal metabolism as well as through exposure to toxins and pollutants (e.g. smoking). Vitamin C may also be able to regenerate other antioxidants such as vitamin E (1)”

Traditional natural sources of vitamin C have included oranges and ascorbic acid tablets. Now there is a new and stronger source of natural vitamin C: Camu Camu. Camu Camu contains a full spectrum vitamin C that is more readily absorbed by the body and provides 30 times more vitamin C per gram than oranges. It comes from the Amazon where it has been used for centuries. Just recently has it become more readily available through Dr. Tim’s Juices a company making high quality exotic super fruit juices. Their juices can be found online at www.brazilbotanicals.com.

Thirsty? The summer sun blazes high in the sky.

Sweat beads up and begins to roll down your body. You feel hot and your mouth gets dry. Suddenly you feel thirsty. There are countless choices for liquid rehydration available. When you get to this point anything ice cold seems like it will do.

summerThirst is an interesting physiological mechanism. It isn't triggered by how hot you feel but by the concentration of chemicals or electrolytes in your blood. This portion of your blood is called plasma and osmolality refers to the concentration of substances such as sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium. You get an increase of plasma osmolality when you lose liquid volume and the chemicals in your plasma become more concentrated. This loss of fluid can happen in a number of ways including sweating, blood loss, and diarrhea and or vomiting.

According to Dr. Mark Dedominco in an article posted on MSN Health & Fitness "Less than a 2 percent rise in plasma osmolality-that's not very much-will elicit thirst. However, it takes a 5 percent rise in your plasma osmolality to indicate true dehydration". Your body's thirst mechanism is an important indicator, much like the oil warning light in your car to take in more fluids. A loss of 2% of body fluids can result in a 20% drop in productivity and mental clarity. That is why those who get stranded in extreme conditions without adequate fluid replacement get confused and unable to perform the simplest of tasks which sometimes can result in death.

Hydration and rehydration are key concepts especially for athletes. The Chicago Blackhawks National Hockey League team recognized early on the overall improvement in cognition and physical performance when their athletes were properly hydrated. They found coconut water to offer the very best results for efficient and complete hydration. Mike Gapsky the Blackhawk's trainer insists on using Dr. Tim's ISO-5 which is powered by young green coconut water because of how well it provides complete hydration to his team. Gapsky commented on how the team members liked the flavors and that ISO-5 did not leave a heavy sticky feel in their mouths. In fact because the hydration is so complete with ISO-5 the Blackhawks never felt thirsty.

ISO-5 can be found in select Albertsons, Harmon's, Bally Total Fitness clubs and at www.brazilbotanicals.com.

Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices offer a ‘Best Taste Guarantee” for their Acai, Noni, Mangosteen and Goji Juices

Not Everyone Has Good Taste…and the recent health trend of Superfruits loaded with antioxidants including Acai, Noni, Mangosteen and Goji supports the old adage “if it tastes that bad, it’s got to be good for you.” “Boy that’s awful” was the reaction of Co-Host Maggie Rodriguez CBS’ the Early Show” when tasting ACAI. One taste and you too may be willing to forgo these health benefits, until now. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices is offering the very first ever BEST TASTE GUARANTEE.

Dr. Tim Hollingshead a surgeon and consultant to the nutrition industry was challenged to make these juices including ACAI and NONI taste good while maintaining the potency of the natural fruit that is often lost in processing. Dr Tim recognized the health benefits of these super fruits and the need to incorporate them into a daily regimen for health conscience consumers.

He became concerned that as Acai and the other exotic juices gained awareness that many companies were racing to make their version of healthy drinks significantly diluting them in potency to appeal to the consumer.

He approached this project and isolated a method to keep the benefits of the juice intact and make them taste good. The first in flavor and potency! The result was CROYFLUX CONCENTRATE which simply takes the natural water out of the juice leaving all the good stuff behind; then adding that liquid volume back with a recipe of just a couple of other juices to support the natural flavor and make them taste delicious.

The result is that you have a good tasting full potency Super fruit juice. And these juices are backed by the first every money back guarantee.

Dr. Tim will refund the full purchase price if the consumer feels there is another comparable product that tastes better. Simply keep your original receipt and the original receipt of the purchase of another equivalent product, and send it to Dr. Tim for a full no questions asked refund of your purchase.*

Dr Tim’s Exotic Juices can be found at select retailers, and online at www.BrazilBotanicals.com and soon to launch at www.GNC.com

Most Acai Products Fail to Disclose the Exact Amount of Acai Juice Content

Nutritionist David Schardt of the Center for Science in the Public Interest said in a recent Readers Digest article "The Acai berry is a good source of antioxidants". But because most of the acai juice drinks advertised do not disclose the amount of Acai in their product "its hard to know how much Acai you’re actually getting in any given product," says Schardt.

Most companies charge an arm and a leg for these unknown blends. One company charges $45.00 for a 750 milliliter or 25 ounce bottle for a blend that has less than 20% acai. However we found one company openly disclosing the amount of Acai in their product with extremely high quality and at what we have found to be an affordable price. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices based out of Saint George, Utah offers 100% juice in each bottle with 85% of that in acai and the remaining 15% just two other juices.

What is so remarkable about Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices is the fact that they openly disclose the concentration of their juice. Additionally we found the "Cryoflux" cold concentration technology to be unique and revolutionary. A 32 ounce bottle of Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai Juice sells for $18.95 and if you buy a 5 or 10 pack they pay for Fedex shipping. This is the best value and quality we have been able to find. And the taste is the best we have sampled. You can find this Acai at www.brazilbotanicals.com as well as in a growing number of health food stores and supermarkets.

Acai Juice Testimonial

After being introduced to the benefits of the acai juice 3 months ago and how it can lower cholesterol levels, I did my research and stumbled upon Dr. Tim's site. I have been on medicine for the last 11 years to help lower my Triglyceride levels and over that time period have never been able to get them down low enough to be in recommended 31 to 150 range.

After only 2 months of taking Dr Tim's Acai juice I can honestly say that there has been significant improvement in my numbers that my doctor is allowing me to go off my medications. Triglycerides are down from 243 to 103, regular cholesterol is down from 134 to 92 and LDL has gone from 49 to 38. I feel I have final been able to conquer a battle that I've worked so hard at trying to control with diet, exercise and finally the dreaded costly medications.

The added bonus to the improved health is the money I will be able to save not having to purchase the meds. And in these economic times who doesn't want to be able to save some of their hard earned dollars. Thanks Dr. Tim for providing these products! Kevin, Kansas

Vitamin Pills vs. Juice

The largest study ever of multivitamin use in older women found they did nothing to prevent common cancers or heart disease.

The Associated Press released an article on February 9, 2009 reporting that a very significant study involving nearly 200,000 participants found that Multivitamins in the pill form do nothing to prevent cancer or heart disease in women or men. The eight-year study in 161,808 postmenopausal women echoes recent disappointing vitamin studies in men.

Millions of Americans spend billions of dollars on vitamins to boost their health. Research has focused on cancer and heart disease in particular because of evidence that diets full of vitamin-rich foods may protect against those illnesses. But that evidence doesn't necessarily mean pills are a good substitute according to the lead author of the study researcher Marian Neuhouser of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

Alice Lichtenstein, a Tufts University nutrition professor who was not involved in the research, said the study is important because it involved so many women. The study appears in Monday's Archives of Internal Medicine.
"All the evidence keeps pointing in the same direction," Lichtenstein said. Diets full of vitamin rich whole foods and fruit juices that have had very little processing are highly recommended and preferred by the experts over pills.

Goji Is Back In The Spotlight

Goji berry (Lycium barbarum L.) has been revered as a king of plants for thousands of years. Its use in Asia as a nutritive food dates back nearly 5,000 years and may even predate some of the Egyptian pyramids. Goji is about 10 times higher in antioxidants than blueberries, We know that there's a lot of scientific evidence supporting the fact that antioxidants may prevent disease and help prevent aging as well. this powerful superfruit is rich in protein, vitamins, calcium, phosphorus and iron and has been touted for its purported ability to improve vision and nourish kidneys, among other benefits.

Hailed as the newest super food, goji berry awareness has blossomed as a result of this trend. Reporters for the Natural Product Insider a leading journal in the natural products industry had this to say about Goji:

While many of the goji berry’s health benefits are derived from the historical use of the plant as a medicine, it is uncontested that these tiny berries contain a wealth of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, phytosterols, prebiotic fiber, EFAs and amino acids. Goji berries also contain a rich supply of linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (LNA). The oil extracted from the goji seed is reported to contain 67.8 g LA and 3.4 g LNA per 100 g of seed oil. The standard American diet is sorely lacking in these important fats; prolonged deficiency of LA and LNA can result in hair loss, kidney and liver failure, miscarriage, tissue inflammation, high blood pressure and edema.

Goji berry is also noted for its high level of antioxidant carotenoids that can protect the body from damage by neutralizing free radicals. The most abundant carotenoid found in goji is zeaxanthin, which has a protective effect on the eyes. Goji berries contain 162 mg of zeaxanthin per 100 g of fruit; this is considerably higher than other edible carotenoid-rich plants such as spinach, which only contains 12.2 mg of zeaxanthin per serving.

Goji berries are also rich in polysaccharides, chains of sugar molecules that may support the regulation of the immune system. In addition, polysaccharides are an excellent source of prebiotic fiber, which is the fermentable or soluble fiber that gets processed into short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the intestinal tract, and provides food for beneficial intestinal flora (probiotics) that aid digestion and nutrient absorption. Daily intake of prebiotic fiber is associated with a reduced risk of several prevalent diseases including obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and a variety of digestive imbalances.

Acai Juice Testimonial

Acai MargaritaImage by Northcountry Boy via Flickr

I was given a bottle of that stuff, Mona Vie, to try for a friend who I guess was going into that tier system. I liked that it made me feel quite a bit better. So, I investigated and went to my local health food store. I was on another blend for several months till one day a friend said she got a pure source of the Acai from her health food store. I'm not to sure how pure hers is, but, on here Dr. Tim tells you his is 85% pure. So, I tried it and the rest has been history for me. I have almost no coffee anymore and eat a smaller more healthy portion of food at my meals. Everyone I tell about this stuff is very happy with the results. I live in a smaller town and the amount of people drinking Dr. Tim's juices is growing. You can't get near his price for the quality and the actual disclosure of pure Acai content. A gift from God to me. I'm so alive and alert and I have a lot of respect for Dr. Tim and his endeavor to keep the quality high, the price low and to keep looking for more of natures gifts. Read about the befits if you don't know. They are happening in my body. Thank you,

John

Europe welcomes Dr. Tim's Exotic Juices.

Map of EuropeImage by Samuel Rönnqvist via Flickr

SAINT GEORGE, UTAH May 19, 2009 Retail News Printer Friendly Print this News

(PRLEAP.COM) May 19, 2009 Saint George, Utah - Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices were accepted by a large distributor based out of Sweden where the juices were reviewed and accepted. Plans to distribute throughout the European Union are set and the products will have great success given the current demand. Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai just last week was accepted for distribution into Japan.

Europe is a market with a growing demand for the amazing purple berry of the Amazon. Europeans have a growing affinity for the taste and the benefits. There has been very limited distribution for this kind of product in Europe due to the high governmental standards for imported beverages. The Europeans understand the benefits of using natural products as dietary supplements. And with the explosion of these Exotic juices in North America the demand for these healthy antioxidant packed juices grows stronger.

"We are so pleased and excited to have received this approval for our Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices" said Dr. Tim. "It is really amazing how the success of the quality and taste of our products is growing so rapidly not only domestically but globally." Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices is a Saint George, Utah company specializing in the formulation and production of natural products derived from exotic fruits. Swine Flu just getting started.

None - This image is in the public domain and ...Image via Wikipedia

The swine flu continues to spread demonstrating an erratic pattern of breakout. The numbers of infected continue to climb in New York and the 5th death from the H1N1 influenza has been reported in Texas. MSNBC reports that “officials don't know why the virus is spreading more rapidly than traditional influenza.”

The CDC has said repeatedly that there would be more deaths and new cases, and that the strain was still on the upswing in the U.S. Texas on Friday reported the nation's fifth swine flu death. The H1N1 virus has been confirmed in more than 4,700 people in United States and nearly 8,000 worldwide.

It is very important to continue practicing safeguards such as hand washing, covering ones mouth when coughing or sneezing and avoiding contact with those who may be ill. Dr. Isaac Weisfuse, a deputy commissioner of the health department, said investigators are trying to learn more about why the disease has spread erratically.

Dr. Tim Solves Potential Food Safety Issue with Acai

AçaíImage by Breno Peck via Flickr

In the March 12, 2009 issue of FOOD SAFETY SMART Ho Phang reposts of a potential link of unprocessed Acai to a parasitic outbreak. He reports “the paste from Acai fruit has been implicated as the main cause of an outbreak of Chaga’s disease.” Chaga’s disease is caused from a parasite known as Tyrpanosoma cruzi. It can cause symptoms similar to the flu including fever, vomiting, aches, fatigue, diarrhea and a tell tale sign of right eye inflammation.

“Of course, there’s really no need to panic and toss out those bottles of Acai juice just yet. If the manufacturers of Acai juice are taking steps to kill parasites in the fruit before it gets into the juice, then the chances of you getting this parasite are small. There haven’t been any recorded cases of Chaga’s disease spread through Acai juice outside of Latin America” says Phang.

Here at Dr.Tim’s Exotic Juices we use the only proven method that ensures the destruction of this and any other potential hazardous organisms. We have always used our special flash pasteurization process to protect our customers. Understanding Chaga’s disease shows that it is very difficult to become infected with it here in the United States.

* Chagas disease is usually spread by the feces of reduviid bugs, insects that live in cracks and holes of poorly constructed houses and outbuildings in South and Central America. The bugs become infected after biting an infected animal or person. Once infected, the bugs pass Trypanosoma parasites in their feces. People get infected when they unknowingly rub bug feces into their eyes or mouth or into a skin wound or bite. People can also become infected by eating uncooked food contaminated with infected bug feces.
* Chagas disease can be transmitted by contaminated blood transfusions or by organ transplants.
* Infected women can pass the infection to their babies during pregnancy, at delivery, or while breastfeeding.

* Chagas disease primarily affects low-income people living in poorly constructed homes in rural areas in South and Central America. People who sleep in houses made from mud, adobe, or thatch are at greatest risk. The acute disease generally occurs in children, whereas chronic symptoms usually appear later in life. Persons with weakened immune systems are at risk of severe infections and complications.
* Travelers who stay in hotels, resorts, or other well-constructed housing facilities are not at risk for getting Chagas disease.

Flash pasteurization kills off any of the potential contamination threat created by this parasite. There have been no reports of infection linked to consumption of Acai juice outside of Brazil. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices all go through a flash pasteurization process to protect our great customers. This process does much to protect the enzymes and active elements of the juice.

Japan Welcomes Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai

May 14, 2009 Saint George, Utah: Dr. Tim of Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices has signed a contract with a large distributor in Japan. Now Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai will be available in Japan. Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai was presented to a large group of distributors at a meeting in Tokyo where it was reviewed and accepted. Mr. T. Hashimoto president of the distribution chain says “We have never had such a high quality Acai drink available here in Japan” He continued “ Japanese standards are so demanding that we have only accepted Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai to distribute in Japan.”

Japan is a market with a growing demand for the amazing purple berry of the Amazon. The Japanese people have a growing affinity for the taste and the benefits. Dr. Tim’s Cryoflux technology is now “Green”

Mojave Desert scene in Joshua Tree National Park.Image via Wikipedia

St. George, Utah Cryoflux is a cold concentration technology pioneered by Dr. Tim. It is utilized to produce the most bioactive and potent fruit juices all the while protecting the natural elements and taste of the juice. Dr. Tim was inspired to develop this technology in answer to the expensive and heat damaging alternative technologies now used in the fruit juice industry. “I didn’t think that reconstituted powders or juice exposed to heat evaporative processes did much to protect the integrity of fruit juice” Dr. Tim continues “ I knew I could do better so I developed this process that really protects the juice while concentrating it”.

The Cryoflux process is a technology that is a “Green” technology. By harnessing the power of the sun we have been able to free our energy demands from traditional electricity and fossil fuels. Our process uses a unique solar powered liquescent reduction phase that allows us to remove unwanted water in the form of ice. Not only does this result in a superior quality of juice concentrate but also helps Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices achieve their goal to reduce their carbon foot print as a company. “We are saving the planet by saving the rainforests through our wild harvest practices and reducing the emission of poisonous greenhouse gases.”

Cryoflux is a proprietary technology used exclusively by Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices make and markets their own brand of Acai, Mangosteen, Goji and Noni juices. Located in the Mojave Desert they have plenty of sun to power their solar based concentration technology.

Pandemic Fears Fanned With Spread of Swine Flu

HONG KONG, CHINA - MARCH 31: A student fasten...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

St. George, Utah A virulent new viral strain combining elements of swine flu, human flu and avian flu has leapfrogged past containment measures and is now circulating "in the wild" in Mexico, California, Kansas, Texas and now probably New York. NBC news reports suspected cases have also popped up in Massachusetts and Minnesota. Up to 68 deaths have already occurred from the new viral strain called H1N1. Over 1,000 people may have been infected. The CDC does not really know how many are infected, as it's still very early in the spread of the viral strain and reliable data isn't yet available.

"We have determined that this virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human," says the CDC on their web site (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/swine/invest...). But they don't know exactly how contagious the disease really is, or what the fatality rate might be. U.S. residents who were infected have recovered, while many infected people in Mexico have died. It is not yet clear why there is a difference in the survival rate across these two countries.

For the moment the new virus seems to be sensitive to Tamiflu and Relenza. Washing your hands and avoiding contact with individuals exhibiting the flu-like symptoms can be your best frontline defense strategy. Additionally boosting ones immune system with foods and juices high in antioxidants are believed to be very effective in combating these viruses.

The Legend of Acai

A satellite image of the mouth of the Amazon R...Image via Wikipedia

Translated from Portuguese by Dr. Tim S. Hollingshead

The legend of acai is a story of sacrifice and love unrequited. It is a bitter sweet story that has its roots in the resplendent lush green jungles that once covered the land where the Brazilian town of Belem now lies. Belem is the capital of the state of Para in the northern part of the country. It sits as a sentinel at the mouth of the world’s greatest and most mysterious river the Amazon as it empties into the Atlantic Ocean.

Many years ago in this region lived a most prosperous tribe of Indians. They had grown so numerous that none dare attack them. They owned “a Boca do Rio Amazona” or the mouth of the river. Because this is a tropical rain forest near the equator the thought of drought in such a bio-diverse and water rich region seems preposterous. However, as we well know, weather cycles exist and although we see them turn more rapidly in these our days it was a rare and completely unexpected occasion for this tribe of Amazon River basin Indians to experience a drought.

The tribe began to suffer from the unusual circumstances brought on by this very rare drought. The rivers and streams used for travel were shriveled to mere trickles. River banks were treacherously deceiving with their pockets of quicksand. The fish were left high and dry to die. Patches of forest dried up and caught fire. The tribe had not prepared for such a time. Life had been so easy when the rains fell regularly and the fish were plentiful and the fruits grew from every tree. Now food became scarce and life became increasingly more stressful and difficult.

The great hunter of the tribe named Chief Itaki worried much over the worsening conditions. His tribe had grown so large and he was unable to feed them all. They were slowly starving to death. Ultimately he came to a very difficult decision. He gathered his tribe together and announced that from that day on any child born would be sacrificed to prevent the tribe from growing any larger. Shortly after Chief Itaki pronounced his decree his own daughter discovered she was pregnant. Her name was Iaca. She was very beautiful with dark piercing eyes and was the chiefs’ only daughter. He adored her and showered her with the most beautiful gifts of the jungle from the rare blue feathers of the blue macaw to the skin of an onca or black leopard. She truly was a princess of the Amazon. The day finally came when Iaca gave birth to her own beautiful daughter. It was a day of joy and a day of terrible sadness. She wanted to hide the baby and send her down river or runaway to the depths of the jungle. But sadly she was unable to protect her baby, Chief Itaki’s only granddaughter from the cruel and harsh decree.

The sweet baby was sacrificed. Iaca was inconsolable and distraught as she cried for three straight days and nights. She remained in her hut praying to Tupa the jungle God that she might show her father another way to help her people and save the tribe without sacrificing any more babies. Then one night as she prayed broken heartedly in her tent she heard the cry of a baby. As she came to the door of her hut she thought she saw her baby smiling, sitting at the base of a great palm bathed in the radiant light of the full moon. At first she was startled by this vision, then without hesitation she darted out into the moonlit night to hold her baby whom she had so dearly loved and missed. She felt her as she held her in her arms and pulled her in tight. Iaca cuddled her tenderly then mysteriously her baby disappeared. Iaca was crushed as she cried mourning for the loss of her baby once again, only this time was too much and Iaca succumbed to a broken heart.

The next day Chief Itaki found her lifeless body, her arms wrapped around the trunk of a palm tree, her face was peaceful with a smile and her eyes were open and strangely fixed upon the upper branches of the palm. The great chief wept. Then Chief Itaki through the tears in his eyes followed the gaze of his daughters’ eyes up into the upper reaches of the palm tree. There to his surprise he saw thin finger like branches covered in dark purple and black berries. He immediately ordered that the fruits be brought down from the top of the tree. They pulled the black pearls of fruit from each fingerling of a branch and mashed the berries into a deep rich purple porridge. They found the berry porridge to be palatable and sustaining. It dampened the pangs of hunger that had haunted the tribes’ people. More berries were found and the tribe was saved from malnourishment and death.

In honor of his daughter he named the berry Acai (Iaca spelled backwards) and rescinded the decree of death saving the babies and the tribe from complete destruction. The tribe honored the great Chief Itaki as he lived the rest of his days in humility and gratitude for his daughter and granddaughter who had sacrificed their lives for the tribe.

Hi, this is Dr. Tim of Dr. Tim's Exotic Juices. It would have been great to have had our products included in Keri Glassman's spot on super fruits.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/03/30/earlyshow/health/main4903095.shtml

You can see our reasonable priced exotic juice products at www.brazilbotanicals.com. I am retired surgeon and have developed our exotic juices to be 100% juice with each bottle containing 85% of the respective main juice and the remaining 15% a mix of just a couple of other juices to support the flavor profile. I developed this specific formula to be a ready to drink format. In the beginning so many of our customers were mixing our juice with other juices. So, after more market research and experimentation we found our formula to be optimal in providing high concentration, high quality juice to our consumers. In addition to that we are also reasonably priced at just $16.95/bottle. It even gets better when you order 5, 10 or 15 because then you get free shipping.

We work very hard to provide outstanding quality at a great value. Once you open one of our bottles of juice you immediately sense the high quality of our juice through flavor, color and thickness. I would love the opportunity to come on and explain just how different we are. Really, there is no other company in this industry founded and run by a real doctor, nor are there products that match ours in quality and value. We are growing rapidly because of this. We believe that we aren't just selling juice but really trust!

The prevalence of obesity seems to be increasing exponentially in the U.S.

We are three months into the new year already. This is about the time that New Years resolutions to lose weight and eat healthy begin to dissolve through frustration, guilt and loss of motivation. Eating healthy and avoiding the temptaion of quick inexpensive fast foods can be challenging. Cheers to those who are sticking to their resolutions. I want to encourage all to stay strong even if you aren't seeing the results you had hoped for by now. I want to share two things I ran across from articles I read. One article addressed the reason that many of us are overweight and the other is a handy little aid to guide you through some fast food decisions.

Dr. Mark Dedomenico medical director of the 20/20 Lifestyles clinic said "The prevalence of obesity seems to be increasing exponentially in the U.S. The average American woman is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 163 pounds, and the typical man is about 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 179 pounds. More than 30 percent of Americans are obese, meaning their body mass index, or BMI, is 30 or higher. Even more shocking is that 63 percent of our population is overweight, according to CDC guidelines. (Adults with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight.)

Despite these shocking statistics, I'm here to tell you that your weight problem is not your fault. In the '60s, our healthy eating habits began to change for the worse. In the U.S., we started replacing the healthy fats in our diets with grains and sugars. We decided that eating a bagel (350 calories and one gram of fat) was healthy. It turned out that eating bagels and other products made from refined flour and sugar makes us hungry for more food, especially carbohydrates.

Today we're deluged with cheap convenience foods that are calorie-dense and easy to grab from the drive-through window on the way home from a stressful day. And those fast-food meals are laden with more calories than many realize. Research shows that the average person underestimates their caloric intake by 600-700 calories per day. That's 4,500 extra calories a week that you think you're not eating. (Remember 3,500 calories equals a pound of body fat.)"

I found this great little book entitled "Eat This, Not That" from the editors of Mens Health magazine. It is small enough to carry around in your car, purse, planner or brief case. It provides actual calorie values to many of the common foods and dishes from fast food restaurants. And it goes beyond that by providing a real list of alternative food choices from many of the same restaurants and others. I recommend that you pick that book up and use it. Don't get bogged down with guilt and or despair. The changes you are undertaking take some time. You can do it!

Health & Wealth

The adage “Health is Wealth” is perhaps more true today than at any other time in history. With the global financial sector in freefall and our own US economy so fragile, health has become an even more valuable and reliable commodity than our retirement funds. "Good health has a high value in dollars," says Bruce Pyenson, an actuary at health consultants Milliman.

Many years ago when I was a young undergraduate student an older friend of mine who was a very successful and wealthy business man once told me something that at the time I thought to be such a curious statement. He told me that he would trade everything he had just to get his health back. He was middle aged and suffering from the side effects of type II diabetes. He had lived a good life that was made very convenient by his obvious financial success yet he neglected to invest in his own health.
Since, I have come to appreciate what this good friend had taught me. I hope that more and more people will embrace this concept of investing in their own respective health as a long term strategy. DAN KADLEC IN A SEP 11 2008 TIME MAGAZINE ARTICLE WROTE “the most important steps to retirement security may have more to do with what you give up (fatty foods, cigarettes and more than two alcoholic drinks a day) than with what you sock away. This is one situation in which less means much more. I suggest that eliminating these highly oxidative intrusions to our health is not giving something up so much as it is getting something back; your health. Please take the time to share the health benefits of Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices with family, friends, neighbors and business associates. You could be helping them with the most important investment they’ll make this year.

When you consider time as a commodity you can leverage your health to optimize your time more so than wealth. Health offers the opportunity to enjoy personal relationships, do good things and provide for yourself and your family. Your true wealth these days is your health.

78 Million American Baby Boomers Face Memory Loss

Cropped screenshot of Henry Fonda from the fil...Image via Wikipedia

Just last January the oldest of the baby boomers began to turn 62. For the next 18 years a member of the baby boomer generation (the 78 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964) will reach that age every eight seconds. Boomers have long been famous for their desire to stay or at least act young. As an integral part of that effort to stay young is the ability to remember.

Many of us remember the Oscar winning performance of the late Henry Fonda in the movie On Golden Pond. In that movie he portrayed Norman Thayer. In the movie Norman learns not to take life for granted by enjoying it. He also learns not to be so crotchety, and not to dote on death. One unforgettable scene in the movie was when Norman got lost in the woods near his cabin. A place that he knew better than any other yet he became confused, lost and terrified

In an article written by Katie Hafner of the International Herald Tribune the global edition of the New York Times she reported the following “: When David Bunnell, a magazine publisher who lives in Berkeley, California, went to a FedEx store to send a package a few years ago, he suddenly drew a blank as he was filling out the forms.

"I couldn't remember my address," said Bunnell, 60, with a measure of horror in his voice. "I knew where I lived, and I knew how to get there, but I didn't know what the address was."

Bunnell is among tens of millions of baby boomers who are encountering the signs, by turns amusing and disconcerting, that accompany the decline of the brain's acuity: a good friend's name suddenly vanishing from memory; a frantic search for eyeglasses only to find them atop the head; milk taken from the refrigerator then put away in a cupboard.

"It's probably one of the most frightening aspects of the changes we undergo as we age," said Nancy Ceridwyn, director of educational initiatives at the American Society on Aging. "Our memories are who we are. And if we lose our memories we lose that groundedness of who we are."

The possibility of losing ones’ memory is freighting. Not too long ago it was believed that there was not much that could be done to prevent such an occurrence. Now we know that there are things that we can do and foods that we can eat that will help us.

In an article by Wendy Hodsdon, ND she shares that foods and supplements can support memory.

“A balanced diet with protein, good fats and complex carbohydrates can balance the activity in the temporal lobes of the brain. Eating protein at every meal can help stabilize blood sugar levels and help prevent the brain fog that sometimes happens after high carbohydrate or high sugar meals.”

Antioxidants play a pivotal role for memory improvement.Antioxidants in the diet can improve memory by decreasing the free radical damage that can occur with age. Foods highest in antioxidants include fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables. Some of the best antioxidants are found in berries (such as acai, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries), spinach, brussel sprouts, plums, broccoli, beets, avocados, oranges, goji, red bell peppers and cherries. Eating many colors of fruits and vegetables ensures a wide variety of antioxidants to nourish and protect the brain.

Supplements can improve memory, learning and verbal skills. Some of these Supplements that support memory include antioxidants such as alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin E and vitamin C. Ginkgo biloba is an herb that enhances circulation in the brain, which can improve memory and concentration. Phosphatidylserine is a nutrient that is found in food and in cell membranes in the body. In studies where it is given as a supplement, it increases the metabolic activity in the brain and improves memory, learning and verbal skills.

Sharon Begley wrote in an article dated Wednesday, February 25, 2009 3:07 PM that “there is more than enough evidence that physical exercise is good for the brain, bringing benefits like lower cholesterol and blood pressure, but here’s more: it can increase the size of your hippocampus, the structure responsible for the formation and storage of new memories as well as for spatial navigation--finding your way around.

In a paper to be published in the journal Hippocampus, scientists report that elderly people who are physically fit generally have a larger hippocampus and better spatial memory than peers who are less fit. Previous studies have shown that challenging the hippocampus—exercising its spatial skills and its memory abilities—can increase its volume, too. London cabbies have bigger ones than your average Londoner, and experienced cabbies have larger ones than newbies, suggesting that making the hippocampus find its way through London’s labyrinth can boost its size. And exercising its memory-making skills seems to do the same thing: a study of German medical students found that the hippocampus got larger as they studied for finals. This is the first study, however, to show that plain old physical exercise, which does not engage the hippocampus to any real extent, can also give it a boost.”

As we progress through this mortal experience there is no escaping the effects of time and age. However there are things that we can do to optimize our health so as to take full advantage of our own allotted time. Staying fit with regular exercise and eating foods and utilizing dietary supplements rich in antioxidants can help us keep our minds sharp and our memories active as we make the most of our life experience.

Facts About Colon Cleansing and Health

Diagram of the Human Intestine.Image via Wikipedia

Over the last couple of years I have noticed in a passing manner a particular set of infomercials and internet ads targeting colon health. They usually have some individual who has absolutely no credentials, no understanding of anatomy or physiology and no real life medical or surgical experience validating their claims. I hope to provide a voice of reason amongst all this marketing.

One of the myths promoted is the idea that your colon is lined with dry packed on fecal material that is contributing simultaneously to two very separate actions; absorption of toxins and the blocking of absorption. And they want us to believe that this is the reason we are fat, sick and tired. As a student both in undergraduate and medical school study from accredited and highly respected universities I had the opportunity to dissect many cadavers. I can tell you that not a single cadaver ever presented with fecal debris packed onto the lining of their respective colons or their small intestines. I never saw this phenomenon as described by our TV and internet marketing friends during my surgical residency or practice. While it is true fecal impaction can and does occur it occurs in the form of a blockage and not an intestinal wall build up. The graphic pictures of large lobulated black masses purportedly removed from a colon as a result of colon cleansing are used to frighten good people into using a product. Those pictures are not true or consistent with the so called “colon cleanse” products being sold. Those are photos of large impactions and or blockages that had been surgically removed. I have assisted in thousands of colonoscopies and never once did we find fecal matter collected or impacted along the wall of the colon.

An important and conveniently overlooked fact that our friends fail to explain is the true function of the colon. Although the large intestine harvests vitamins made by bacterial flora and reclaims most of the remaining water and some of the electrolytes, absorption is not the main function of this organ. The primary functions of the large intestine are propulsive activities that force the fecal matter toward elimination. Here is another interesting fact; while the large intestine is important for our comfort it is not essential for life. If the colon is removed as may be necessitated by colon cancer, then the terminal portion of the intestine is brought out through the abdominal wall in the form of an “ostomy”. Often we find with people obsessed with colon cleansing is a blackening of the colon wall and a lack of protective mucousa. Sometimes in the process of these ritualistic colon cleansings the colon wall can be torn or ripped creating a true medical emergency with possible fatal consequences. Remember that it is in the small intestines that absorption occurs.

So it is not necessary to take colonic cleansing aids as a means to “clean the walls of your colon” to achieve weight loss or avoid sickness. It is however a means to dislodge a lower intestinal blockage, stimulate the peristaltic action of the intestinal wall and or alleviate constipation. Some people find this sensation of cleaning their colon as “refreshing”. However a diet with fiber will do more for you than any of these so called colonic cleansing aids. And to think that the reason you may be overweight is due to poor absorption or a toxic build up in your colon is unfounded and untrue. First look at what you eat. For a one or two week period keep a log of what you eat and drink both quantity and frequency. Then make the appropriate adjustments to your diet. Avoid fads. Use high quality dietary supplements. Get regular moderate exercise. Drink plenty of water and get as close to 8 hours of sleep at night. Avoid eating after 8:00 PM. Acai can act as a detoxifying agent due to its high antioxidant level, polyphenols and fiber content.

If you feel compelled to clean your colon then be informed. Do it sparingly, perhaps once a year but certainly not more than twice a year. If you are constipated, have blood in your stool or are otherwise concerned about your colon seek professional advice.

Our customers speak out....

Recently I have been reading headlines that mislead consumers about ACAI. They are simply ads for other products aimed at selling consumers something that is loosely connected. Acai is a Super Food but not as a stand alone diet product.
The Oprah show that highlighted this berry as a superfood explains it best. This berry contains the most individual food components. It has protein, Carbs, fat, in addition to Omega 3 and 6, b vitamins for energy along with an impressive orac value. THAT’S IT. Yes, you could sustain life on this berry if it was the only choice and that what makes it a superfood. You don’t need to supplement many other components for a healthily diet.
Any product with this profile could be used in a diet, fulfill some dietary elements and with the proper exercise program can and will allow you to lose weight. But dieting is a lifestyle choice, eating healthy is suggested, along with moderation and control. This with a comprehensive exercise program will help many people. But there is no magic pill, you will not be able to take some Acai pill, Cleanse your system lose 10 lbs in 48 hours and keep it off without commitment to the lifestyle change. And no doctor will recommend this type of diet.
But Dr Tim’s Acai is a very powerful juice that helps in so many ways it can be and should be part of your diet to get all the good from this one organic berry. So enjoy the beverage, drink it as a juice, add it to other beverage and continue to be health conscience.
What I think is the true Super Drink, is the ISO-5. This really fits such an important part of our lifestyle. A sports drink with nothing added Nothing Artificial, and containing all the essential electrolytes. I love this drink and so do my kids. Keep up the good work.

Is Acai a Miracle Food?

Just what is all of the hype about acai? By now you probably have the knowledge that acai is a fruit that is found in the rain forests of Brazil. A lot of claims are made about acai, without the scientific research to support those claims. But we do know quite a bit about acai, and because of what we do know, we should include it in our daily diet.

  1. It is rich in vitamins and minerals
  2. It is a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid
  3. It is a rich source of antioxidants, which are absorbed well by the body

Is acai going to cure disease, help you look and feel younger or help you lose weight? It is possible, but these claims still need to be supported by scientific research. Fortunately, researchers are studying acai, and the studies that we see support including acai in the diet. A wide variety of fruits and vegetables in the diet is what nutritionists and dietitians recommend. Drinking Dr. Tim's Acai Juice, along with his other botanical juices is a great way to boost your fruit and vegetable intake! A healthy diet is a factor in overall good health, and this is a claim that has been scientifically substantiated!

Top Ten Beverages to Drink in 2009

According to University of Utah nutritionist, Rachel Jones, acai juice is one of the top ten drinks we should be consuming in 2009. She appeared on KSL's Studio 5 this morning. She said that acai is a "fantastically powerful antioxidant" and that acai and other dark purple, dark blue juices can reverse the aging process.

One of the other types of beverages she discusses are "green drinks" because of the magnesium in them. Acai happens to be a fruit juice that is magnesium rich.

No doubt about it, acai is definitely a beverage you will want to include in your diet this year! Of course, you'll want to choose Dr. Tim's Acai Juice. When you look at other brands on the market, you get more pure acai for less money with Dr. Tim's juices.

Nutrient Content of Acai

Just exactly why is acai considered to be a superfood?

There have been many articles in the mainstream media about acai being a powerful antioxidant, but until recently, there hasn't been a lot of reputable data on acai. Paul M. Gross, PhD., did a review of the current scientific literature regarding acai. He looked at the nutritional content of acai and compared it to other berries such as goji and blueberry, which are known to be highly nutritious. He showed that acai is higher in beneficial fat, vitamins A and E, minerals and fiber. He had positive conclusions regarding acai, especially when it comes to the potential for prevention of chronic diseases saying,

"Dozens of diseases have a component of oxidative stress at their origins, such as chronic inflammation, atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancer, and so may be prevented or inhibited by high-antioxidant fruit like açaí."

Start The New Year Eating Nutritiously!

Ring out the old and ring in the new! If you haven't already, start 2009 by incorporating healthy eating habits into your diet.

What is a healthy diet? A healthy diet includes foods that are nutrient dense, meaning that they are high in beneficial nutrients when compared to the caloric value of the food. How does this translate into foods that you should eat? Dr. Perricone, a noted physician has a great slide show over at Oprah.com that summarizes his picks of "good foods". You can access the slide show here. Each of the foods he lists are high in beneficial nutrients. You'll note on slide number 9, that acai juice is listed as one of the beneficial beverages he lists. A healthy diet will help prevent chronic disease conditions that are so prevalent in society today.

Here at Dr. Tim's Juices, we provide a superior acai juice. It is 85% pure acai puree which is superior to other juices on the market. We do not add any preservatives, sugar or fillers. Try our Acai, we know that you'll benefit from drinking it and enjoy the flavor.

Here's to you and yours for a happy, healthy new year!
