What are Acai Berries and Acai Berry Juice -- What Are the Health Benefits?
We have all heard about acai berries? But what about the health benefits of acai berries and berry juice? Acai berries are highly promoted by marketers who say it’s one of the top superfoods with anti-aging and weight loss properties. Some manufacturers use acai berries in beauty products. But do scientific studies support these claims of acai benefits?
How to Enjoy Nutritious Exotic Fruits
What is the acai berry? The acai berry is a 1" long reddish, purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree, which is native to South America, especially Brazil.
Research on the acai berry has focused on its possible antioxidant activity. Theoretically, that activity may help prevent diseases caused by oxidative stress such as heart disease and cancer.
Is the acai berry healthy? Acai contains several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids. anthocyanin comes from two Greek words meaning “plant” and “blue.” Anthocyanins are responsible for the colorful hues in many fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Foods that are richest in anthocyanins -- such as blueberries, red grapes, red wine, and acai -- are very strongly colored, ranging from deep purple to black.
Anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help defend the body against life's stressors. They also play a role in the body's cell protection system. Free radicals are harmful by-products produced by the body. Eating food rich in antioxidants may interfere with aging and the disease process by neutralizing free radicals.
By lessening the destructive power of free radicals, antioxidants may help reduce the risk of some diseases, such as heart disease and cancer.
Are there known health benefits of acai?
Some studies show that acai fruit pulp has a very high antioxidant capacity with even more antioxidant content than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry. Studies are ongoing, though, and the jury is still out.
People eat acai berries to address various health conditions. But so far, acai berries have no known health benefit that’s any different than that of other similar fruits.
Research supports eating a diet rich in antioxidants. There’s no doubt that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet promoting weight loss. The jury’s still out on whether there is something special about acai’s ability to shed excess pounds.

The antibiotics your doctor is prescribing you today may not work tomorrow.
The over-prescribing of antibiotics is the cause of an alarming rise in the incidence of “Super-Bug” infections. A Super-Bug infection is a term given to infection from bacteria that have become resistant to common antibiotics. The most common reason for the resistance is from the over use and abuse of antibiotics. This happens when you go to the doctor and he or she is unable for a variety of reasons to arrive at a proper diagnosis given a set of signs and symptoms that are common to colds and viruses. What seemed harmless and even considered a good idea 2 or 3 decades ago of prescribing patients antibiotics without confirming the root cause of the illness is now exploding into these super-bug infections. It seems that the wisdom behind what most of us learned early on in our medical education about prescribing antibiotics, that is: one bug, one drug, has been lost over the years. Perhaps it could be blamed on our health care system and the costs associated with expensive lab work or the desire to not let a patient leave empty handed from their visit, or it may be because patients have been more persistent about getting something, anything for their illness or sadly even just that physicians have become ignorant to the real dangers of this practice. Regardless, the problem is here and it is growing: very good antibiotics are no longer killing the bugs! WHO, the World Health Organization has reported that we are now progressing to the point where “Super Super-Bugs” are developing resistance to our strongest antibiotics. These bugs include such diseases as tuberculosis and malaria. It is vitally important to realize and demand from your doctor that an accurate diagnosis be made and only the most appropriate and efficacious drugs be used. I have included a recent article reporting on this very real threat to our health.
WHO: Antibiotic overuse gives rise to 'super superbugs'
Tuberculosis, malaria among diseases becoming resistant to various drugs By Manuel Mogato and Esha Dey MANILA/WASHINGTON— Misuse of antibiotics has undermined the global fight against infectious diseases like tuberculosis and malaria and could make the drugs ineffective, the World Health Organization warned Thursday.
An estimated 440,000 new cases of tuberculosis resistant to several types of drugs were reported last year in nearly 60 countries across the globe, according to the agency.
"At the same time, other age-old diseases are on the rise with the possibility of no cure," said Shin Young-soo, WHO regional director for Western Pacific area. Shin called on WHO's 193 member-states to commit resources and adopt policies to fight the growing problem of drug resistance.
"Antimicrobial resistance is a global concern not only because it kills, but because it increases health costs and threatens patient care.
" A gene that makes bugs highly resistant to almost all known antibiotics, or "super superbugs," has been found in bacteria in the water supplies in New Delhi. The gene, called NDM 1, first emerged in India three years ago and has spread across the world.
MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a superbug that alone is estimated to kill 19,000 people each year in the United States -- far more than HIV and AIDS.
The WHO used World Health Day on Thursday to launch its "Combat Drug Resistance! No action today, no cure tomorrow" policy.
Separately, the U.S. health regulator said it would expedite certain drug approval processes to tackle the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant diseases.
Confused about muscle confusion?
A term that may seem new to many and that is getting a lot of use these days is the term: muscle confusion. This term refers to the training technique that utilizes an exercise routine that is varies and prevents your muscles from becoming habituated or use to the same routine. Research has shows that doing the same exercises using the same routine allows the muscle groups to become habituated or used to the stress and thereby reduces the effectiveness of the exercise. That means the muscles or muscle groups won’t burn as many calories as they did when you first began using that particular routine or in other words: your muscles get bored. Research shows that by changing up muscle groups and the exercises used to target them prevents this from happening and allows you to burn more calories and build better muscle health.
Here are some ways to do it:
Vary Your Tempo
Using resistance training spend 3 to 4 seconds on the down movement whether you’re lowering your body or a weight. (You canuse dumbbells or a barbell.)
Reps: 10 to 15
Sets: 2 or 3
Dumbbell shoulder press
Pullup
Dumbbell bench press
Barbell row
Dumbbell squat
Barbell lunge
Get a spring break body no matter the season.
Switch Sides
Performing a workout that challenges your body, and your mind will help keep boredom at bay. Single-arm and single-leg exercises force you to concentrate on keeping one side (and your torso) stable while the other one moves. Exercises that target alternating sides “can lead to increased calorie burn, strength, and core stability.”
Reps: 6 to 10 per side
Sets: 2 or 3
Alternating dumbbell bench press
Alternating dumbbell row
Single-arm cable row
Single-leg dumbbell straight-leg deadlift
Single-leg squat
Muscle Burn Circuit
Do as many reps of each exercise as you can in 1 minute, maintaining good form. Move to the next exercise without resting. Complete the circuit four times for a total of 28 minutes.
Bench jump straddle
Straddle a bench. Bend your knees and lower your butt until it just touches the bench. Use the momentum of your arms and explosively jump, landing both feet on the bench. Step down with your left foot, then your right. Squat slowly, tap your butt on the bench and jump up again.
Push up’s to fail
With your arms shoulder width apart place your hands on the floor and your feet stretched out behind you and do as many pushups as you can. Try to keep your back straight and go until your arms burn.
Medicine ball figure-eight
Maintain a wide squat, your feet about twice shoulder-width apart. Hold a medicine ball or basketball with both hands straight in front of you, and move the ball in a figure-eight motion, swiveling your hips back and forth. Don’t arch your back.
Straight-leg situp
Lie on your back with your legs straight and arms extended above the top of your head. Lift your torso as if you’re trying to touch your toes, keeping your legs on the ground. Lower your body back to the start position.
Bench hop
Stand next to the side of a bench, both feet together. Reach down and grab the short end of the bench. Jump over it, and as soon as your feet hit the floor, jump back to the other side. Your hands should never leave the bench.
Upgrade Your Cardio
Take something ordinary, such as a high school football stadium, and turn it into a fitness playground. Look at what you’re doing in your normal routine and apply it outdoors.
Start at the end zone and jog the length of the field to the opposite end zone. Run diagonally across the field until you reach the corner. Jog up the steps to the top of the stadium. Turn around and run down the path you just took. Run laterally down the field to the opposite end zone. Jog up the steps to the top. Turn around and run down the path you just took. Run across the opposite diagonal of the field. Continue the bow-tie pattern until you have made it to the top of all four corners of the stadium. (This routine can also be adapted for walking.)
Research shows that drinking water can increase metabolic rate x 30 % and that it will last for nearly 90 minutes, sip Dr. Tim’s ISO-5 powered by coconut water and get all this and the added benefits of water plus essential electrolytes.

#2. Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai
Juice Next, I recommend that you take 1 ounce of Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai in the morning and then again 30 minutes before your evening meal. You may also supplement with more Acai during the day if you get hungry. It works great to help you overcome those “munchy/snacky” times of the day. The Acai works to provide powerful antioxidants, anthocyanins, fiber, protein, vitamins, iron and other nutrients that help cleanse and support your body functions to boost your efforts at weight loss. You can add additional Acai shots throughout the day as needed.
#3. Dr. Tim’s Jungle Juice
All natural real energy
Then you will take at least ½ of the Jungle Juice mid morning and the other half mid afternoon to safely boost your energy levels. You may drink the entire bottle of Jungle Juice in the morning or afternoon as well. Remember that Jungle Juice will provide hours of focused energy. Jungle Juice works by fueling your energy plant in your cells called the Mitochondria. It then works to mobilize fat to be burned as fuel and create more energy for you. Then it delivers a powerful appetite suppressant to stave off the munchies.
#4. Low Glycemic Food Plan
I recommend that you follow a low-glycemic diet and that you add 45 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise. You can find more about the glycemic index at www.glycemicindex.com.
#5. Exercise Plan
If exercise is a new element in your daily routine and be sure to check with your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to start an exercise program. Then start with 30 minutes of walking 3 to 5 times a week and build to 45 to 60 minutes a day 5 to 6 times a week. Working up a good sweat and getting your heart rate up to fat burning zone will feel tough at first but then your body will develop a craving for this. Remember that typically it tales about 2 ½ weeks or so for your body to adjust to the new demands you are making on it both from an exercise requirement and a food intake change. Make a plan that allows you to achieve this goal over a 30 day period or longer if needed.
Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day here or there. If you miss a day or two or three just accept it and get back on track, you can do this. Also, set reasonable expectations regarding the amount of weight you want to lose and a healthy time period in which to achieve your goal. And finally be careful about the foods you eat. This is where following a low-glycemic diet plan works with you for success. Remember, in the end, it is all about the calories in vs. the calories out.

Why Do People Drink Acai Juice?
Why do people drink Acai juice? Is it because it tastes good? What happens to you when you drink Acai juice?
Acai juice comes from the Acai date palm fruit more commonly spoken of as a berry. In reality the Acai does not render juice as we have come to expect from other berries. The Acai skin is scraped away from a very dense large seed. This is then mixed into a pulp which releases the oils and deep purple color from the fruit. This pulp is used to make the Acai juice. Because Acai doesn’t have naturally occurring sweet sugars the pulp has a guacamole paste like consistency with a taste that is earthy and is more suited as a savory dish not a sweet juice. But then add a sweetener such as other fruit juices, honey or even sugar and the taste transforms into a cherry-berry chocolate flavor that is very unique.
Why buy 100% Acai juice? Most Acai juice that claims to be 100% is very expensive and tastes bitter and even rancid. So, I am not sure why anyone would buy 100% Acai juice. Even if you diluted it with other juices you add an unreasonable cost that is not necessary. I find that there are many Acai juices that are blends that contain 10 to 20% juice. I have only been able to find one juice that has a lot of Acai juice, over 85% that is blended with two other juices. The taste is remarkably smooth and very delicious. This is absolutely the only juice that tells you how much you are getting. The cost is reasonable as well. In fact, for the cost of buying one bottle of 100% Acai juice plus the other juices you buy to add to mix it with you can buy two bottles of Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai. Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai is ready to drink.
Why do people even drink Acai Juice? Acai has many reported and distorted pieces of information about what its’ real benefits may be. Reliably you can trust that Acai provides a very healthy amount of antioxidants. These antioxidants are key in fighting disease producing inflammation especially as it affects the heart. Some studies even show affects against certain types of cancer cells. There are also healthy fatty acids called omega 6 and 9, fiber, protein and anthocyanins. These elements also help boost the immune system. I think people drink Acai juice to feel good and to be healthy.
Acai looks to be a legitimate healthy addition to your diet. Acai juice that is high in Acai content and tastes good is the most sensible and reasonable way to get it. Look for the USDA Organic certification as this is a sign of quality.

Organic Certifiers confirm USDA Organic certification for Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai juice
St. George, Utah Organic Certifiers of Ventura, California confirm USDA Organic certification for Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai juice. “Certified Organic Acai juice is a singularly important and exclusive validation of our Acai juice supply” says Dr. Tim Hollingshead, CEO of Dr. Tim’s Juices. It is particularly important in light of the fact that there are many Acai products available but only a few that have USDA Organic certification.
Dr. Tim’s Juices is a Utah based company founded and lead by Dr. Tim Hollingshead, a physician and surgeon who has re-dedicated his purpose to providing healthy alternatives to the consumer. USDA certified mangosteen juice is hard to come by. “We import our Acai juice and Acai berry puree and apply our Cryoflux concentration technology to protect bioactivity and potency.” This along with the USDA certification sets Dr. Tim’s Juices apart from the rest of the Acai juice purveyors.
Acai berries are grown throughout the Amazon with the majority of them coming from Brazil. Acai is a unique fruit with a flavor profile to match. It is used in both savory and sweet applications. It has a very thin amount of inner flesh covered by a deep purple outer skin known for its antioxidant content. USDA Certification ensures proper growing and harvesting techniques are employed that protect both the harvest and the environment guaranteeing the nutritional value of that crop.

WHY DOCTORS ARE RECOMMENDING ACAI
Acai has a unique taste. It has been described many ways including chocolate-berry flavor to mixed berry flavor to avocado like. The real flavor profile of Acai is not sweet nor berry like. In fact the reason for consuming Acai is not for the flavor or because it a delicious fruit but because of its antioxidants and health benefits.
Acai has a lot to offer in the way of health benefits. It contains anthocyanins which are high in antioxidants, monounsaturated fats which are good for you, fiber, iron, protein and B vitamins. It is used as a food staple among the “riberinhos” or river dwellers of the Amazon Basin because of its life sustaining properties. Beyond the Amazon Basin in Brazil the Acai is eaten in many forms including sorbet, jam and as a frozen slush mixed with granola and honey. Over 90% of the Acai is consumed in Brazil.
Acai is sold in the world predominately as a juice or in juice form. This is so because of its delicate nature and inability to be preserved in any other form other than a puree or juice. Acai is available in a variety of blends and mixtures and even as a 100% puree or juice. One quickly learns that 100% Acai is very bitter and distasteful. And most that chose to consume it this way mix it with other things in order to tolerate its natural flavor profile.
One of the more remarkable characteristics of Acai is its ability to turn into an amazingly delicious and flavorful fruit once combined with just the right ratio of special juices. In fact along the Amazon River the riberinhos who eat Acai primarily as an unsweetened porridge and dip for fish and shrimp will occasionally add a bit of honey to the Acai and transform it into the most unique and pleasantly flavorful dessert.
Acai juice as it is available here in the U.S. can come in a variety of mixtures and blends. From high quality delicious supplements such as Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai to very low quality versions that can be found in super markets such as Wal-Mart. The Dr. Tim’s brand does the best job in delivering the most authentic Acai flavor without the bitterness. The Wal-Mart brands offer a juice that is Acai in name only, is mostly water and sugar and taste just like any other fruit punch on the shelf.
The science behind the health benefits of Acai is growing. With over 100 research articles published we are learning more and more about Acai and why it is good for us. Recent research has revealed that Acai lowers bad cholesterol, is a strong antioxidant that gets into the blood stream and is effective in fighting diseases related to inflammation such as heart disease, arthritis and autoimmune disorders. It has been demonstrated in the laboratory to fight certain types of cancer cells such as Leukemia.
To find Acai that tastes like Acai and is delicious without compromising quality and quantity of Acai you must read the labels. To take advantage of the health benefits of Acai you need to find the brands of juice that deliver on quantity. The Acai juices sold mostly as dietary supplements contain more Acai than others. Look for brands that deliver 80% or more real Acai in their products and have a short ingredient list. Also look for fruit content that exceeds 22,000mg of fruit per serving and stay away from the bitter and distasteful 100% Acai products. Beware of the other end of the spectrum and avoid the confusion of cheap Wal-Mart brands. And above all, remember that the real reason to buy an Acai product is to enjoy the health benefits that come from the Acai berry fruit.

ACAI IMPROVES ANTIOXIDANT STATUS AND DECREASES CHOLESTEROL
Saint George, Utah. Acai has some very good benefits. Unfortunately these benefits are clouded by the uneducated claims made by over zealous marketers. “I am always searching for new results being published in reputable scientific journals” says Dr. Tim of Dr. Tim’s Juices. The consumer may be feeling a little deceived about acai and hesitant to supplement their diets with this remarkable fruit. And this is understandable given the tsunami of false claims that inundated the web last year. Dr. Tim continues “ I think we are beyond the untruthful claims of miracle weight loss and magic acai pills”.
But the science requisite to validate the anecdotal claims has been scarce. However we are starting to see some credible evidence supporting acai as an effective and essential dietary supplement. Most of the research is being conducted in animal models and demonstrating some very interesting results.
A recent study reported in the Journal of Medicinal Food 2009 Oct;12(5):1084-8 conducted at the Universidade de Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais, Brasil concluded that consumption of acai improves anti-oxidant status and decreases bad cholesterol. M. Oliveira De Souza et al of the Núcleo de Pesquisas em Ciências Biológicas investigated the antioxidant potential and hypocholesterolemic effects of acai (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) pulp ingestion in rats fed a standard or hypercholesterolemic diet. This means that rats who were fed a high cholesterol diet and tested positive for high cholesterol and then had their diets supplemented with Acai showed two things: #1. the study proves the antioxidant significance of acai supplementation in living organisms and #2. acai supplementation was effective in reducing cholesterol levels. Keep in mind that this study now needs to be performed on human subjects. Nonetheless these results are very important and further validate and confirm much of the anecdotal evidence we are seeing with acai consumption.
It is important for the consumer to know that supplementing ones diet with acai can result in positive health benefits. Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai has been proven to have 85%+ acai content and is a very good source of potent, bioactive acai in the best tasting format. They offer a best taste guarantee and are very reasonably priced. For more information go to www.brazilbotanicals.com.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?
The female name “Mona” and the word “vie” literally means to challenge the woman named Mona. I am not sure how this applies to a multilevel marketing company intent on selling fruit juice blends with Acai juice among 18 other juices. Perhaps the real task is to challenge the quality and value of the juice called by the same name. If you take a bottle of this product and do the math on the contents per ounce it turns out that there would only be 1.3 ounces of each juice in their 25 ounce bottle. One ounce is the equivalent of approximately 30 milliliters or one Tablespoon. Their recommended daily dosage is one Tablespoon. So in that one Table spoon optimally you would be receiving only .05 ounces per serving of any one of the 19 juices in their Acai fruit punch. That is only 5% of the volume of a Tablespoon. That is as small as a teardrop. Now one bottle can cost $40.00. There are 25 servings per bottle which then comes to $1.60 per ounce. On a national average gasoline is only 4cents per ounce. Other companies sell 32 ounce bottles of 100% acai for the same $42.00 price but the taste of 100% pure acai is very bitter and hard to swallow. It seems the reasonable middle ground in this purple berry fight is to find a juice that is high in quality, content, ready to drink or rather good tasting and half the cost of these $40.00 bottles. The only product we have been able to find that fits this category is Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai. A 32 ounce bottle of Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai contains 85% real Acai with the remaining 15% a mixture of just two juices for flavor. And the good news is that the taste is outstanding. It really tastes like Acai. The cost is only $18.95 per bottle and when purchased in groups of 5 the shipping is free. No need to cry any tears over finding high quality, great tasting reasonably priced Acai with Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai.

Thirsty? The summer sun blazes high in the sky.
Sweat beads up and begins to roll down your body. You feel hot and your mouth gets dry. Suddenly you feel thirsty. There are countless choices for liquid rehydration available. When you get to this point anything ice cold seems like it will do.
summerThirst is an interesting physiological mechanism. It isn't triggered by how hot you feel but by the concentration of chemicals or electrolytes in your blood. This portion of your blood is called plasma and osmolality refers to the concentration of substances such as sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium. You get an increase of plasma osmolality when you lose liquid volume and the chemicals in your plasma become more concentrated. This loss of fluid can happen in a number of ways including sweating, blood loss, and diarrhea and or vomiting.
According to Dr. Mark Dedominco in an article posted on MSN Health & Fitness "Less than a 2 percent rise in plasma osmolality-that's not very much-will elicit thirst. However, it takes a 5 percent rise in your plasma osmolality to indicate true dehydration". Your body's thirst mechanism is an important indicator, much like the oil warning light in your car to take in more fluids. A loss of 2% of body fluids can result in a 20% drop in productivity and mental clarity. That is why those who get stranded in extreme conditions without adequate fluid replacement get confused and unable to perform the simplest of tasks which sometimes can result in death.
Hydration and rehydration are key concepts especially for athletes. The Chicago Blackhawks National Hockey League team recognized early on the overall improvement in cognition and physical performance when their athletes were properly hydrated. They found coconut water to offer the very best results for efficient and complete hydration. Mike Gapsky the Blackhawk's trainer insists on using Dr. Tim's ISO-5 which is powered by young green coconut water because of how well it provides complete hydration to his team. Gapsky commented on how the team members liked the flavors and that ISO-5 did not leave a heavy sticky feel in their mouths. In fact because the hydration is so complete with ISO-5 the Blackhawks never felt thirsty.
ISO-5 can be found in select Albertsons, Harmon's, Bally Total Fitness clubs and at www.brazilbotanicals.com.

Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices offer a ‘Best Taste Guarantee” for their Acai, Noni, Mangosteen and Goji Juices
Not Everyone Has Good Taste…and the recent health trend of Superfruits loaded with antioxidants including Acai, Noni, Mangosteen and Goji supports the old adage “if it tastes that bad, it’s got to be good for you.” “Boy that’s awful” was the reaction of Co-Host Maggie Rodriguez CBS’ the Early Show” when tasting ACAI. One taste and you too may be willing to forgo these health benefits, until now. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices is offering the very first ever BEST TASTE GUARANTEE.
Dr. Tim Hollingshead a surgeon and consultant to the nutrition industry was challenged to make these juices including ACAI and NONI taste good while maintaining the potency of the natural fruit that is often lost in processing. Dr Tim recognized the health benefits of these super fruits and the need to incorporate them into a daily regimen for health conscience consumers.
He became concerned that as Acai and the other exotic juices gained awareness that many companies were racing to make their version of healthy drinks significantly diluting them in potency to appeal to the consumer.
He approached this project and isolated a method to keep the benefits of the juice intact and make them taste good. The first in flavor and potency! The result was CROYFLUX CONCENTRATE which simply takes the natural water out of the juice leaving all the good stuff behind; then adding that liquid volume back with a recipe of just a couple of other juices to support the natural flavor and make them taste delicious.
The result is that you have a good tasting full potency Super fruit juice. And these juices are backed by the first every money back guarantee.
Dr. Tim will refund the full purchase price if the consumer feels there is another comparable product that tastes better. Simply keep your original receipt and the original receipt of the purchase of another equivalent product, and send it to Dr. Tim for a full no questions asked refund of your purchase.*
Dr Tim’s Exotic Juices can be found at select retailers, and online at www.BrazilBotanicals.com and soon to launch at www.GNC.com

Most Acai Products Fail to Disclose the Exact Amount of Acai Juice Content
Nutritionist David Schardt of the Center for Science in the Public Interest said in a recent Readers Digest article "The Acai berry is a good source of antioxidants". But because most of the acai juice drinks advertised do not disclose the amount of Acai in their product "its hard to know how much Acai you’re actually getting in any given product," says Schardt.
Most companies charge an arm and a leg for these unknown blends. One company charges $45.00 for a 750 milliliter or 25 ounce bottle for a blend that has less than 20% acai. However we found one company openly disclosing the amount of Acai in their product with extremely high quality and at what we have found to be an affordable price. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices based out of Saint George, Utah offers 100% juice in each bottle with 85% of that in acai and the remaining 15% just two other juices.
What is so remarkable about Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices is the fact that they openly disclose the concentration of their juice. Additionally we found the "Cryoflux" cold concentration technology to be unique and revolutionary. A 32 ounce bottle of Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai Juice sells for $18.95 and if you buy a 5 or 10 pack they pay for Fedex shipping. This is the best value and quality we have been able to find. And the taste is the best we have sampled. You can find this Acai at www.brazilbotanicals.com as well as in a growing number of health food stores and supermarkets.

Dr. Tim Solves Potential Food Safety Issue with Acai
Image by Breno Peck via Flickr
“Of course, there’s really no need to panic and toss out those bottles of Acai juice just yet. If the manufacturers of Acai juice are taking steps to kill parasites in the fruit before it gets into the juice, then the chances of you getting this parasite are small. There haven’t been any recorded cases of Chaga’s disease spread through Acai juice outside of Latin America” says Phang.
Here at Dr.Tim’s Exotic Juices we use the only proven method that ensures the destruction of this and any other potential hazardous organisms. We have always used our special flash pasteurization process to protect our customers. Understanding Chaga’s disease shows that it is very difficult to become infected with it here in the United States.
* Chagas disease is usually spread by the feces of reduviid bugs, insects that live in cracks and holes of poorly constructed houses and outbuildings in South and Central America. The bugs become infected after biting an infected animal or person. Once infected, the bugs pass Trypanosoma parasites in their feces. People get infected when they unknowingly rub bug feces into their eyes or mouth or into a skin wound or bite. People can also become infected by eating uncooked food contaminated with infected bug feces.
* Chagas disease can be transmitted by contaminated blood transfusions or by organ transplants.
* Infected women can pass the infection to their babies during pregnancy, at delivery, or while breastfeeding.
* Chagas disease primarily affects low-income people living in poorly constructed homes in rural areas in South and Central America. People who sleep in houses made from mud, adobe, or thatch are at greatest risk. The acute disease generally occurs in children, whereas chronic symptoms usually appear later in life. Persons with weakened immune systems are at risk of severe infections and complications.
* Travelers who stay in hotels, resorts, or other well-constructed housing facilities are not at risk for getting Chagas disease.
Flash pasteurization kills off any of the potential contamination threat created by this parasite. There have been no reports of infection linked to consumption of Acai juice outside of Brazil. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices all go through a flash pasteurization process to protect our great customers. This process does much to protect the enzymes and active elements of the juice.
Japan Welcomes Dr. Tim’s Brazilian Acai
Image via Wikipedia
Japan is a market with a growing demand for the amazing purple berry of the Amazon. The Japanese people have a growing affinity for the taste and the benefits. There has been very limited distribution for this kind of product in Japan due to the high governmental standards for imported beverages. The Japanese people understand the benefits of using natural products as dietary supplements. And with the explosion of western diets the demand for healthy alternatives grows stronger.
“We are so pleased and excited to have received this approval for our Brazilian acai” said Dr. Tim. Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices is a Saint George, Utah company specializing in the formulation and production of natural products derived from exotic fruits. Besides the Acai they also make Tibetan Goji, Thai Mangosteen and Polynesian Noni. Dr. Tim is the president and CEO of Dr. Tim’s Exotic Juices. Their products can be found throughout the United States and online at www.brazilbotanicals.com

78 Million American Baby Boomers Face Memory Loss
Image via Wikipedia
Just last January the oldest of the baby boomers began to turn 62. For the next 18 years a member of the baby boomer generation (the 78 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964) will reach that age every eight seconds. Boomers have long been famous for their desire to stay or at least act young. As an integral part of that effort to stay young is the ability to remember.
Many of us remember the Oscar winning performance of the late Henry Fonda in the movie On Golden Pond. In that movie he portrayed Norman Thayer. In the movie Norman learns not to take life for granted by enjoying it. He also learns not to be so crotchety, and not to dote on death. One unforgettable scene in the movie was when Norman got lost in the woods near his cabin. A place that he knew better than any other yet he became confused, lost and terrified
In an article written by Katie Hafner of the International Herald Tribune the global edition of the New York Times she reported the following “: When David Bunnell, a magazine publisher who lives in Berkeley, California, went to a FedEx store to send a package a few years ago, he suddenly drew a blank as he was filling out the forms.
"I couldn't remember my address," said Bunnell, 60, with a measure of horror in his voice. "I knew where I lived, and I knew how to get there, but I didn't know what the address was."
Bunnell is among tens of millions of baby boomers who are encountering the signs, by turns amusing and disconcerting, that accompany the decline of the brain's acuity: a good friend's name suddenly vanishing from memory; a frantic search for eyeglasses only to find them atop the head; milk taken from the refrigerator then put away in a cupboard.
"It's probably one of the most frightening aspects of the changes we undergo as we age," said Nancy Ceridwyn, director of educational initiatives at the American Society on Aging. "Our memories are who we are. And if we lose our memories we lose that groundedness of who we are."
The possibility of losing ones’ memory is freighting. Not too long ago it was believed that there was not much that could be done to prevent such an occurrence. Now we know that there are things that we can do and foods that we can eat that will help us.
In an article by Wendy Hodsdon, ND she shares that foods and supplements can support memory.
“A balanced diet with protein, good fats and complex carbohydrates can balance the activity in the temporal lobes of the brain. Eating protein at every meal can help stabilize blood sugar levels and help prevent the brain fog that sometimes happens after high carbohydrate or high sugar meals.”
Antioxidants play a pivotal role for memory improvement.Antioxidants in the diet can improve memory by decreasing the free radical damage that can occur with age. Foods highest in antioxidants include fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables. Some of the best antioxidants are found in berries (such as acai, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries), spinach, brussel sprouts, plums, broccoli, beets, avocados, oranges, goji, red bell peppers and cherries. Eating many colors of fruits and vegetables ensures a wide variety of antioxidants to nourish and protect the brain.
Supplements can improve memory, learning and verbal skills. Some of these Supplements that support memory include antioxidants such as alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin E and vitamin C. Ginkgo biloba is an herb that enhances circulation in the brain, which can improve memory and concentration. Phosphatidylserine is a nutrient that is found in food and in cell membranes in the body. In studies where it is given as a supplement, it increases the metabolic activity in the brain and improves memory, learning and verbal skills.
Sharon Begley wrote in an article dated Wednesday, February 25, 2009 3:07 PM that “there is more than enough evidence that physical exercise is good for the brain, bringing benefits like lower cholesterol and blood pressure, but here’s more: it can increase the size of your hippocampus, the structure responsible for the formation and storage of new memories as well as for spatial navigation--finding your way around.
In a paper to be published in the journal Hippocampus, scientists report that elderly people who are physically fit generally have a larger hippocampus and better spatial memory than peers who are less fit. Previous studies have shown that challenging the hippocampus—exercising its spatial skills and its memory abilities—can increase its volume, too. London cabbies have bigger ones than your average Londoner, and experienced cabbies have larger ones than newbies, suggesting that making the hippocampus find its way through London’s labyrinth can boost its size. And exercising its memory-making skills seems to do the same thing: a study of German medical students found that the hippocampus got larger as they studied for finals. This is the first study, however, to show that plain old physical exercise, which does not engage the hippocampus to any real extent, can also give it a boost.”
As we progress through this mortal experience there is no escaping the effects of time and age. However there are things that we can do to optimize our health so as to take full advantage of our own allotted time. Staying fit with regular exercise and eating foods and utilizing dietary supplements rich in antioxidants can help us keep our minds sharp and our memories active as we make the most of our life experience.

Our customers speak out....
Recently I have been reading headlines that mislead consumers about ACAI. They are simply ads for other products aimed at selling consumers something that is loosely connected. Acai is a Super Food but not as a stand alone diet product.
The Oprah show that highlighted this berry as a superfood explains it best. This berry contains the most individual food components. It has protein, Carbs, fat, in addition to Omega 3 and 6, b vitamins for energy along with an impressive orac value. THAT’S IT. Yes, you could sustain life on this berry if it was the only choice and that what makes it a superfood. You don’t need to supplement many other components for a healthily diet.
Any product with this profile could be used in a diet, fulfill some dietary elements and with the proper exercise program can and will allow you to lose weight.

Is Acai a Miracle Food?
Just what is all of the hype about acai? By now you probably have the knowledge that acai is a fruit that is found in the rain forests of Brazil. A lot of claims are made about acai, without the scientific research to support those claims. But we do know quite a bit about acai, and because of what we do know, we should include it in our daily diet.- It is rich in vitamins and minerals
- It is a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid
- It is a rich source of antioxidants, which are absorbed well by the body
Is acai going to cure disease, help you look and feel younger or help you lose weight? It is possible, but these claims still need to be supported by scientific research. Fortunately, researchers are studying acai, and the studies that we see support including acai in the diet. A wide variety of fruits and vegetables in the diet is what nutritionists and dietitians recommend. Drinking Dr. Tim's Acai Juice, along with his other botanical juices is a great way to boost your fruit and vegetable intake! A healthy diet is a factor in overall good health, and this is a claim that has been scientifically substantiated!

Top Ten Beverages to Drink in 2009
According to University of Utah nutritionist, Rachel Jones, acai juice is one of the top ten drinks we should be consuming in 2009. She appeared on KSL's Studio 5 this morning. She said that acai is a "fantastically powerful antioxidant" and that acai and other dark purple, dark blue juices can reverse the aging process.
One of the other types of beverages she discusses are "green drinks" because of the magnesium in them. Acai happens to be a fruit juice that is magnesium rich.
No doubt about it, acai is definitely a beverage you will want to include in your diet this year! Of course, you'll want to choose Dr. Tim's Acai Juice. When you look at other brands on the market, you get more pure acai for less money with Dr. Tim's juices.

Nutrient Content of Acai
Just exactly why is acai considered to be a superfood?
There have been many articles in the mainstream media about acai being a powerful antioxidant, but until recently, there hasn't been a lot of reputable data on acai. Paul M. Gross, PhD., did a review of the current scientific literature regarding acai. He looked at the nutritional content of acai and compared it to other berries such as goji and blueberry, which are known to be highly nutritious. He showed that acai is higher in beneficial fat, vitamins A and E, minerals and fiber. He had positive conclusions regarding acai, especially when it comes to the potential for prevention of chronic diseases saying,
"Dozens of diseases have a component of oxidative stress at their origins, such as chronic inflammation, atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancer, and so may be prevented or inhibited by high-antioxidant fruit like açaí."
